I thought it would be fun to share some of the best questions I’ve found helpful to get to know someone on a first date. I remember when I first started dating, oh how I dreaded “the first date”! I was ridiculously nervous and super unsure of what to say or ask. Now with more than a handful of first dates under my belt, I’m happy to report I’ve concurred my fear of the first date. I’m able to relax, enjoy myself, and most importantly get to know the person. My questions below focus on 5 traits I think are most important including values, goals, intentions, hobbies, and travel. I’m thinking of re-entering the dating world soon and would love to hear first date suggestions, drop some in the comments!
Values > Who are the most important people in your life? My family and friends are super important to me and I want to know who the guy I’m dating values. It’s interesting to see who he mentions as well as how he describes them. I’m a firm believer in who you surround yourself with will shape the person that you are so I want to know if the people in your life are someone I want to be around?

Goals > Where do you want to be a year from now? This question is super helpful because it can help you understand if you have the same goals, their level of ambition, and where they are in life right now. Are they looking to further their career, buy a home, find someone? Have they even thought about their future? I know what answers I would give for these questions and by asking them I’m trying to figure out if our goals align.

Intentions > What are you looking for? With the various definitions of a “relationship” these days I’ve found it’s really important to ask this question. I’m at the point where I’m really over dating for the heck of it, I have an end goal in mind and if that person’s goal isn’t the same I’m moving on.

Hobbies > What do you like to do on the weekends? This is so simple but it gives me an idea of how this person spends their time. Are they super active, playing sports, hitting up the gym or hiking trails? Do they hang out with friends or family? Do they stay in or go out? Basically I’m just trying to understand how they like to spend their time and if that aligns with how I want to spend mine.

Travel > Are you planning any trips? Covid aside, I love to travel! I have never regretted the money spent on trips or experiences plus it’s just so much fun! Everyone has a great travel story, I love learning more about places they’ve been and where they want to go.
As always thanks for reading!

I like your question and in today’s world, those are good things to know. When I met my husband I had just been dumped 2 days beforehand lol I was talked into going bowling with my friend and her boyfriend little did I know they wanted me to meet a friend of theirs. Being freshly dumped I was not in the mood to talk but to feel sorry for myself. 2 days later their friend called and asked me out and I knew that night we were would get married. 😀 It’s not been almost 33 years married and 2 adults son lol funny how things work out sometimes 🙂
